Abbreviations (US terms):

Instructions
Body:
- Foundation: Ch 9.
- Round 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 4 ch, 3 dc in last ch. Working on the opposite side of chain, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in last st. Join with sl st. (This makes an oval base.)
- Round 2: Ch 3, sk 1 st, dc in next st. Repeat around to create a lattice/mesh effect (fish “scales”). Adjust by skipping and chaining as needed to maintain oval shape. Join with sl st.
- Round 3 (optional): Repeat mesh row if you want a slightly larger body.
Tail:
- From the narrow end of the oval, attach yarn.
- Ch 4, dc in same st. Repeat into next 2 sts to form one triangle side of tail.
- On the opposite side, repeat Ch 4, dc in same st 3 times to form the other triangle.
- You now have a tail shaped like a “V.”
Finishing:
- Add a small black stitch or sew a bead for the eye near the front.
- Fasten off, weave in all ends.
