Zentangle art

Zentangle art is a beautiful, meditative drawing method — it uses structured patterns (tangles) repeated in sections to create an abstract, relaxing design.

Zentangle is a form of mindful doodling that:

  • uses repeated structured patterns,

  • doesn’t need erasing or planning,

  • and promotes calm focus (very similar in spirit to meditation).

Beginner Zentangle Patterns (Tangles)

Try one in each space:

  • Crescent Moon – half-circles layered inside one another.

  • Hollibaugh – crisscross lines that appear to weave under and over.

  • Bales – a diamond grid with petal shapes inside.

  • Tipple – small round bubbles filling space.

  • Shattuck – wavy lines with alternating fills.

  • Flux – leaf or teardrop shapes.
